The Arab (Palestinian) and African (not just Arab) cup.

How really because of the Morocco team Qatar’s became the “Arab” (and Palestinian) but also the “African” (non just Arab) cup, and what people in Morocco actually stood for ❤

(Amazigh = local name for what in Europe used to be called “Berbers”, which yes, surprise…used to come from “Barbarian”)

“Instead of the Morrocan flag, which is too closely associated with the regime, the flags fluttering in the stands are the Amazigh tri-coleur and the Palestinian flag.

-> The Amazigh flag held aloft is a reminder to the Arab East that Morocco is ethnically and linguistically different—and proud.
[…]
“Africa,” with whom Morocco also has long-neglected bonds, has—also because of state policy—recently emerged as a political alternative, an escape from Arab domination and erasure.”

-> “The Palestine flag is a reminder (a middle finger?) to the Arab regimes that have normalized ties with Israel (and are now importing Israeli surveillance technologies used on Palestinians to use against their own citizens).
It is also a gesture of solidarity to the Palestinians, a reminder that Palestinian liberation is one plank of pan-Arabism worth retaining.”
